Wake up alarm at 1:45 AM – yes you heard it right. We had to leave in the middle of the night to see the sunrise on top of the volcano Haleakala on Maui. The bus ride was not too long, but we were very tired. Our guide was talking soooo much and explained us everything about the route we are going to ride afterwards all the way down again.
Every turn and every landmark we had to remember, this in the middle of the night.
Anyway. The sunrise was nice and cold. Of course, as Swiss people we were all covered up with winterjackets and many layers, whereas some ‘funny Asian’ guys were freezing with their flip flops and a towel rubbed up. The sun showed up a little above the clouds at around 6 AM and it was still around 5 degrees Celsius up there. It is time to ride on…. We grabbed a bike and were on our own. We rode through 6 different climate zones. Picturesque landscape, amazing rainbow and moon bow, interesting flora and fauna. Unfortunately, the second half of the ride was not so comfortable anymore. It rained sooo much, we thought we are in the wrong country. Even my snowboard jacket and my rain pants did not help much and I was wet on every single clothing I wore. (You know what I mean) we were glad to be down the hill and jumped in our car.
Raining, raining another day in Maui. We already know all the shopping centers and all the restaurant near by…
The afternoon we spent on the south beaches: Kihei, Wailea, and Makena. Down south it was not so much raining, but also not weather which invites to go swimming or surfing.
Let’s hope it will be better the next days.
