We arrived in the pleasant airport of Kona. After we picked up our mid-size car from Thrifty we drove along the coast.
We had lunch in a cowboy town called Waimea. There was really all about cowboys and ranches. In a little mall we got some nice Korean food which probably lasts again for the next couple days… Huge portions. Crazy America just makes me fat. Anyway, we had a long ride to go until we reached our destination Pahoa. My mistake, that we did not fly directly to HILO. I did underestimate the size of this island (yes literally big island). We arrived in our cottage in the middle of nowhere. It is probably the place you go when you are very stressed out and need to feel the nature. That’s probably also the reason why there are a lot of Hippies around. Beside the ‘clothes-optional-beach’ there was a nice market with ‘it is all about organic-natural-vegan-food’ and people who are all about ‘Namaste’.
let’s see what we make out of it for the next three days. First thing we did was to explore the giant volcano field. Mila walked with FlipFlops, which turned out to be a stupid idea. (Yes I fell, and got myself a bloody foot) no reason to stop, we walked to the Kalapana scenic point and we were amazed by the black sand and the cliffs. Unfortunately, I couldn’t walk too much anymore, so we decided to do backtracking to the market. We tried a lot of samples such as, Hawaiian nachos (so delicious), chocolate (very organic), lemonade (so natural).
For dinner we had to go back because we still had some Korean leftovers from lunch. All in all, a very nice day, but a lot of driving.
We are excited about our upcoming days on this BiG ISLAND!
