In general, I suggest flying directly to Cebu (instead of Manila). Most of people have not even heard about Cebu, although it is the second biggest city of the Philippines.

However, Cebu City is not that spectacular. Of course not – it is just a huge city with many shopping centers on the one hand and with big poverty on the other hand.

One main attraction of the Cebu Island is „Oslob“, which is located 5 bushours or 2,3 carhours in the south. Oslob is one of the few places in the world, where you see whalesharks. There is not much else there to see, but it attracts lots of tourists, mainly filipinos.

There are two different hotels, which I can recommend in Oslob.

Malanzo Pension House

Hotel Sebastian

Restaurants are also quite rare, so in the evening I highly recommend to go for street food and experience a typical Filipino dinner – with loots of meat 😉

There is not much else to do in the evening in Oslob, so you can sleep early, because you need to get up early to make one of your dreams come true.

Get up 5 AM! get a tricycle or a Jeepney to go to the Whalesharks. Make sure to go directly to the Information. First, you need to listen to the instruction on how to deal with the Whalesharks. Afterwards you pay 1000 PHP and you will get assigned to a guide. he will help you to get a mask and a life west and you are ready to go to the boat. 5min boat ride brings you to the whalesharks. I am still overwhelmed how close they swim and crab some food. and they are huge – the biggest one is supposed to be as big a a huge zircon-bus, maybe 20 meters? Although, it was my second time I am still very impressed about these gentle creatures. After 30 minutes all the fun is over and you return – time for breakfast and continue the day.

Definitely a once (or twice) in a lifetime experience. thumbs up!
