Knee Surgery 1/2
In order to still remember the procedure of my knee surgery I thought about writing everything down, and why not in my blog. Win-Win – my blog will finally get some food, and its publicly available to read the whole story 🙂
There are different hypotheses, why I always had problems in both my knees. My mother sticks to the hypothesis its because of me being baby wrapped a different way.
Anyway, having knee problems for around 15 years, i decided finally to do something and getting a surgery. The only problem they did not only have to fix my knee, but also my thigh.
1st October this is how it looked after the surgery:
They did a cut in my thigh (oberschenkelfraktur), rotate it by 22 degrees, and fixed my knee cap as well.
Day 2: I mainly stayed in bed, less painkillers, was able to use the wheelchair to say hi to my mum in the cafeteria.
Day 3: First shower after the surgery, and already leaving the hospital. Getting into the car was crazy hurtful.
Day 4 up to Day 14: I was not able to get alone to bed, getting up. Everything was quite hurtful. Injection every night. With the provided Machine my leg got up to 30 degrees. This exercise + 2times/week physio helped a bit.
Week 3/4 – i should have reached 60 degrees, however i was not there yet. I was only at around 45 degrees and got a bit stuck.
Week 5/6 – Continue physio twice a week. There were always three parts of Physio: 1) Mobilization 2) Massaging 3) Exercises
It seems obvious, but the massage was a bit less painful than the other two. We also tried the dry needling, which i thought its okay, but somehow not as good as Acupuncture.
Mid of November i had a appointment at the clinic with the Child-Doctor (fun fact; one of the surgeon was more responsible for children surgeries)
Outcome: I could remove the band aid, i am allowed to go to the water/bathtub, no more injections (especially happy about it) – and i should train my quadriceps muscle like crazy. Unfortunately i was not on 90 degrees, which i should have been. Therefore cycling was impossible 🙁
Week 7 – I went to the thermal bath with my friend Sandra. Still on crutches! I thought the water has all the magic for me. Mission failed, i was not even able to move forward and I could only move either backwards or holding myself at the side of the bath. Horrible experience and quite disappointing
Week 8 – We booked a weekend at a Spa Hotel in Weggis, Lucerne! With positive energy and a great supporter and way better physiotherapist by my side everything went way better in that pool. I was able to walk, make some exercises, jump and move. I hardly ever needed my crutches anymore.
I felt a bit more alive than the last 8 weeks 😉
Week 9 – First time on the Bike with some painkillers to help. The first 20 minutes on the bike was more a up and down, moving a little bit. I was not able the pedal around. After the painkiller kicked in, it somehow worked a little bit. Again, a bit more alive.
