Croatia was on our “to-go-list” for quite a while. However, we the beauty of Asia has always overcome us and we put off holidays in Europe for a while. Since both of us started our new job recently and we are not so flexible in regards to holidays, we had to plan something for August. Summer in Europe is lovely, therefore you do not need to go too far. (and Indonesia was not an option anyway)
We booked a flight to Dubrovnik, and a return flight from Split. This is by the way the much cheaper option than the other way around. Accomodation was a bit difficult since it was quite pricey but we found some lovely AirBnb. Taking the ferry is also no big hassle and we could arrange everything there.
Dubrovnik
First thing in Dubrovnik is to make sure to get money. They do not take cards for the airport bus. Afterwards, life was so much easier. The bus took us directly to the old town of Dubrovnik. A lovely city with a great wall to walk on. That was also the first thing we did. Yes, we always need to discover right after we arrive at a new place. The walk on the wall took us a bit more than an hour. Obviously, we were also not the only one and it got quite crowded. It got quite hot in the afternoon, make sure you bring a hat and enough water to drink.
Hvar
Yes, we need to confess. We got a bit in love with Hvar. The harbour and the fancy yachts was not something we were thinking of after Dubro. The Airbnb was beautiful and we had a really good time. Cute little restaurants in the alleys and good hike to the fortress. What was missing a little bit, like everywhere in Croatia, are the sandy beaches. It was not that comfortable on the rocks, but the clear water made it up again. There are some nice places along the coast with a bit less people.
Split
The highlight was probably the last day, when we were at a nice lovely beach.
For split, i really recommend to go on some trips for example the beautiful waterfalls as you can see on the pictures
