Apo Island is probably not one of the most famous places in the Philippines, but one of the special ones. One reason is probably, because it is not famous, and there are not so many people explored it yet.
Apo Island can only been reached by small boats. It makes sense to wear swim clothes to cross the island, because most likely you get wet 🙂 If you are lucky, you get a bigger boat, where they can pack your bags below, where nothing gets wet. The ride takes roughly 45 minutes and depending on the wind and waves, it could be quite adventurous.
After arriving at Apo Island you will get welcomed by some locals and a very relaxed and laid back atmosphere. There are only 2 main hotels and restaurants on the island. Few guesthouses are now getting settled as well and ready to take guests. So what can you do on the island, and what makes it so special?
Turtles sanctuary. i have never seen so many turtles in such a short time. there were not only many turtles, but also beautiful and big ones. We were able to take amazing pictures. check out below 😉
Beachlife – it is not like the typical beach you probably think of. it is different, but certainly worth lying few minutes on the beach and get tanned. In Apo Island there is always wind, so it is not super hot. (well that was my experience at least)
And we should not forget about the diving. there are many nice dive spots around the island. it was very well organized, however, they did not take it too serious with the divers certificate, or the buddy check. But, nothing happened, so I cannot say anything against it.
The evening on the island is also special with a romantic atmosphere. Once, all the boats leave to bring back the day-trip-tourists, the evening starts with a stunning sunset with a couple beers. The evening you spend in the restaurants and make most of the time, when there is still power. At 10 PM the power is off, and you are forced to sleep (or if you are lucky to read on your kindle with light) 🙂
a special thanks to my dad, who actually brought us here. his idea and i liked it.
