Our idea was to spend a weekend in one of the sunniest places in Europe during autumn.
Quite spontaneously we booked our Iberia flight through Madrid to Gran Canaria. We picked up our car and drove in direction accommodation in Las Palmas.
I already fell in love with the promenade and later the Tapas Snack and a beer for only 1.50 EUR. This afternoon we also checked out the surfspot – unfortunately this was the only time when the waves were UP and surfable.
In the evening the bad weather came out of nowhere and stayed the whole fu***** time 🙁 apparently, they haven’t had rain for almost 5 months. It was that bad, that they closed the beach for surfing and swimming. The lucky ones were really the kitesurfer who enjoyed the wind and did jumps until it got really dark.
So yeah, the actual plan for going a weekend for a surf in Gran Canaria did not really work out. We went to the very touristic place Maspalomas. Wischiro and me did not really like the place, beside there was a bit more sun than up north. The sanddunes were also not very sandy since there was also rain during the night there. We still had some fun … and this time Wischiro could at least walk (last time he had even worse luck when he had a surf accident on the second day)
At night we supposed to go to a music festival with few people from the surfcamp – and hell … I have really not seen such a big strong rain for a long time (and hey, i live in Switzerland)
The bad luck followed us by me loosing my new jacket at the airport with a bunch of keys (I know – stupid me) – and our baggage also did not arrive in Zurich.
That’s it! I hope to experience Gran Canaria one day from a better side.
PS. a restaurant recommendation which you really have to follow: http://www.restaurantedonquixote.com/
there is a reason why it is so well rated in TripAdvisor 🙂
