A weekend in Berlin

18th – 20th May

my friend Ben, who stayed with me in summer 08, visited Europe for his 30th Birthday. He came all the way from Sydney to few places in Europe.
After i got the Facebook invitation to have a party in Berlin there was not much to consider. It has been a while since I was last time in Berlin, so i booked a flight to this longer weekend (on monday was public holiday) I just had a flight and didn’t know what is expecting me.

When I arrived on the crappy airport in Berlin I called Ben, where he is … and so we met somewhere at the U-Bahn Station. We went to the place where we are staying. An apartment where 9 people are living, and few guys had also other guests for this weekend. So, there was full-house and we were ready to go out! After a walk and a Kebab (apparently in the best Kebab Place) we found this cocktail place. We started with our 3.50 EUR Cocktail at 7 PM…. yeah and we stayed there until 2 AM in the morning. You can imagine how many drinks I had and how much I spent. (The answer: lot of drinks, not a lot of money)

I also wrote to my friend Selina, who is currently living in Berlin to catch up for a drink. Luckily she was close by and came to the cocktail bar for a 3.50 EUR Mai Tai 🙂 It was amazing to see her again and catch up with some new and old stories.

On Sunday and Monday we went a bit sightseeing. The difference between east Berlin & west Berlin are fascinating. The day pass brought us so many different places for only 6 EUR 😉 Checkpoint Charlie, the Museum Islands, The Berlin Wall, different Parks, Shopping Street …

One of the highlight was the Bear Pit in the Mauer Park. There was this Irish guy who came few years ago with his bicycle and his macbook to this park and started a Karaoke Show for his friends. There were a lot of fans and they expected this guy every Sunday. That’s how he became famous and legendary. Luckily the weather was very nice and a lot of funny, but also very good singers came to the park and sang their song. Everybody was singing a long and a huge applause for every brave show.

I met again so many new people and we really had a great time. Thanks everybody.
